The Ted Foster Grove is HRC’s second land trust purchase in March 2003. The Foster Grove is a 13 acres tract mature riparian located on Columbus Road adjacent to the Route 33 interchange in Athens, Ohio. The forestland is the last remaining mature forested area along Columbus Road and is within the groundwater supply area for the city of Athens. The trees along the river provide natural filtration before water enters the river. The Hocking River is the main source of recharge for the water table for the cities of Lancaster, Logan, Nelsonville, and Athens. The tract also includes successional growth along the gas pipeline right-of-way that bisects the property. The property is named in honor of Ted Foster, long time HRC member.
