2005 – Stoetz-Wilder Grove

Mary Stoertz-Wilder Grove

The Mary Stoertz-Wilder Grove is HRC’s third land trust purchase in November, 2005.  The Grove is located near the old town of Frost in Troy Township on the lower Hocking River.  The site is named after Mary Stoertz-Wilder.  Mary was a long time member of HRC.  The Grove is a 30 acre site adjacent to the bridge crossing the Hocking River on Township Road 532 a.k.a. ‘Frost Road.” This site is our first restoration project.  With the help of Hocking College students HRC has planted 6000 wetland trees creating the grove.  The property also has the Athens-Belpre Trail Frost Road Parking.
