With grant funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division Watercraft The Hocking River Commission worked with the Athens County Commissioners and Rome Township Trustees to provide public river access for hand-powered watercraft. The Athens County Commissioners assisted with obtaining grant funding for the project to be installed at Savannah Park, which is owned by the Rome Township Trustees. The Hocking River commission assisted assisted with the engineering design and coordinating with regulatory entities. As mitigation for disturbing the natural riverbank the Hocking River commission planted 150 trees, which were purchased by the Athens County Commissioners.
